Last, please share with your friends – both fat and not-fat. You may think someone who isn’t fat wouldn’t benefit from this website. But part of my mission is to help people who have never had a weight problem understand those of us who have battled being fat all or most of our lives. Skinny people don’t understand why we don’t just stop eating so much. This site and my lifetime of being extremely overweight will shed some light and help them understand us better.

One thing people who have lived a lifetime of fatness struggle with is hope…in all its forms. We place hope in the latest diet fad, only to have it fail once again. We place hope in our doctors, counselors, and pharmacists to help us, only to find out as soon as we stop the medical plan, encounter stress, or stop taking a pill because of its side effect…the weight comes back. We beg God or a higher power for help, placing our hope in spiritual victories, only to encounter feelings of guilt and spiritual defeat when we gain back the weight we lost for the umpteenth time.

I’ve experienced all those things, and I’m sure many of you have as well. But there is hope. There is Hope for the Heavy. We don’t have to live a life of pain and regrets. We aren’t sentenced to a life of only bark and twigs for breakfast, lettuce for lunch, and an unseasoned chicken breast with a pile of vegetables for dinner. There is HOPE, and healthy living IS possible, even for those of us who are convinced we will never experience it.
