Walking With Jon – Inaugural Edition

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Walking with Jon. I plan to periodically video my walks in groovy places and share insights and history about the locations, nature/environmental information, and anything else I think you might like to know. These videos are designed to inspire and encourage you to consider taking a walk, too. It’s a wonderful and healthy way to explore the world around you.

Walking is an especially good form of exercise for those who are heavy.

  • The larger the person, the more calories they will burn while walking. It takes more energy to move more mass.
  • Walking is less likely to result in pain and injury.
  • Studies have shown that walking for as little as 10 minutes daily can have positive health benefits. Walking for 30 minutes can reduce blood pressure, blood sugar levels and release healing endorphins.
  • Unless a person has mobility challenges, walking generally doesn’t require training, special equipment, or any extra expense.
  • Walking outdoors, in particular, connects a person to nature, their community and their surroundings.

I love to walk, and it’s currently my primary form of exercise while I work to get my weight low enough again to get back on my bike.

I know that it can be daunting for those who are heavy to walk even short distances. But we all have to start somewhere if we want to conquer the pain of obesity in our lives. When I started walking most recently after gaining back a lot of my weight, it was hard, and I could only go short distances. Now, I walk a 5k (3.1 miles) multiple days each week. But I encourage you to not get hung up on the distance. Instead, commit to just getting out there consistently, and take it one step at a time, literally.

I hope you enjoy the video! Please share this post with your friends, and while you’re at it, suggest getting together to walk.
